Επιστολή Καταγγελίας για Μητροπολίτη Σιλουανό

Ο Μητροπολίτης Μεγάλης Βρετανίας και Ιρλανδίας κ. Σιλουανός, συμπροσευχήθηκε δημόσια
– με τον Πάπα στη Ρώμη
– και με την “Αρχιεπισκοπίνα” του Canterbury
(κάποτε τα γράφαμε, και γελούσαμε, η αδιαφορία όμως των πολλών, έφερε και αυτό το κατάντημα).
Ένας ορθόδοξος Ρουμάνος ιερέας,
που έχει διακόψει την μνημόνευση του οικείου επισκόπου, όπως προβλέπεται από τους Ιερούς Κανόνες (Αποτείχιση), μαζί με τους ενορίτες του,
στέλνει μία ακόμη επιστολή στον Πατριάρχη και στην Σύνοδο του Πατριαρχείου Αντιοχείας .

Κάποιοι θα αναρωτιούνται και τι έγινε,
μόλις μια ενορία στην Αγγλία, που υπάγεται στο Πατριαρχείο Αντιοχείας.
Τι τους νοιάζει;

Κι όμως, ακόμη και ΕΝΑΣ Ορθόδοξος ιερέας να απομείνει που θα ομολογεί την αλήθεια (ευτυχώς υπάρχουν κι άλλοι πολλοί), αρκεί.
«Ουδέν εποιήσαμεν», όπως είχαν παραδεχτεί όταν ΔΕΝ υπέγραψε ο Μάρκος ο Ευγενικός.

Μεταφράσαμε την επιστολή από τα Αγγλικά (ακολουθεί το αυθεντικό κείμενο στα Αγγλικά, μαζί με τις παραπομπές και το σχόλιό μας):

Μακαριώτατε Πατριάρχα,

και Σεβασμιώτατοι Μητροπολίται, Μέλη της Ιεράς Συνόδου,

Μετά βαθυτάτου σεβασμού απευθυνόμεθα προς την Υμετέραν Μακαριότητα και προς τους Σεβασμιωτάτους Μητροπολίτας, αναφερόμενοι εις τα προηγούμενα ηλεκτρονικά μηνύματά μας σχετικά με τον Σεβασμιώτατον Μητροπολίτην Μεγάλης Βρετανίας και Ιρλανδίας κ. Σιλουανόν.

Σας απευθύναμε επιστολήν την 17ην Οκτωβρίου 2025 σχετικά με τη δημοσία κοινή προσευχή του μετά των ετεροδόξων εν Ρώμη,¹ και εκ νέου την 26ην Ιουνίου 2026 σχετικά με το ίδιο ζήτημα εν Καντερβουρία (Canterbury),² χωρίς καμία εκ των δύο επιστολών να έχει μέχρι σήμερον λάβει απάντηση.

Βαθύτατα θλίβεται και ταράσσεται η Ορθόδοξος συνείδησίς μας, καθώς εξακολουθούμε να γινόμεθα μάρτυρες του γεγονότος ότι ο Μητροπολίτης Σιλουανός προσεύχεται ανοικτά και δημοσίως μετά των ετεροδόξων, κατά τη διάρκεια ακολουθιών των οποίων προΐστατο ο Πάπας της Ρώμης (την 14ην Σεπτεμβρίου 2025)³ και ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος Καντερβουρίας (την 25ην Μαρτίου 2026),⁴ εντός των ιδίων αυτών χώρων λατρείας, εν Ρώμη και εις τον Καθεδρικόν Ναόν της Καντερβουρίας(Canterbury).

Τα γεγονότα αυτά δεν επρόκειτο περί ιδιωτικών ή τυχαίων συναντήσεων, αλλά περί δημοσίων πράξεων κοινής προσευχής, αι οποίαι σκανδαλίζουν το Ορθόδοξον πλήρωμα και εξακολουθούν να μας προκαλούν βαθύτατον πόνον.

Όπως αναφέραμε και εις τα προηγούμενα ηλεκτρονικά μηνύματά μας, οι ενέργειες του Μητροπολίτου Σιλουανού αντιβαίνουν εις τους ακόλουθους Ιερούς Κανόνας:

ΜΕ΄ Αποστολικός Κανών: «Ἐπίσκοπος, ἢ πρεσβύτερος, ἢ διάκονος, αἱρετικοῖς συνευξάμενος μόνον, ἀφοριζέσθω· εἰ δὲ ἐπέτρεψεν αὐτοῖς ὡς κληρικοῖς ἐνεργῆσαί τι, καθαιρείσθω.»

ΞΕ΄ Αποστολικός Κανών: «Εἴ τις κληρικός, ἢ λαϊκός, εἰσέλθῃ εἰς συναγωγὴν Ἰουδαίων ἢ αἱρετικῶν προσεύξασθαι, καὶ καθαιρείσθω καὶ ἀφοριζέσθω.»

ΛΒ΄ Κανών της εν Λαοδικεία Συνόδου: «Ὅτι οὐ δεῖ αἱρετικῶν εὐλογίας λαμβάνειν, αἵτινές εἰσιν ἀλογίαι μᾶλλον, ἢ εὐλογίαι.»

ΛΓ΄ Κανών της εν Λαοδικεία Συνόδου: «Ὅτι οὐ δεῖ αἱρετικοῖς, ἢ σχισματικοῖς συνεύχεσθαι.»

Περαιτέρω, το 1978, η Εκκλησία της Αντιοχείας συμμετείχε εις την Επιτροπήν Διμερών Αγγλικανικών-Ορθοδόξων Θεολογικών Διαλόγων εν Αθήναις, από κοινού μετά δέκα ακόμη κατά τόπους Ορθοδόξων Εκκλησιών.⁹ Εκεί, η Ορθόδοξος αντιπροσωπεία απέρριψε ομοφώνως τη χειροτονία γυναικών ως «καινοτομίαν» άνευ θεμελιώσεως εις την Ιεράν Παράδοσιν, καταλήγουσα εις το συμπέρασμα ότι αυτή συνιστά «παραβίασιν της αποστολικής πίστεως και της εκκλησιαστικής τάξεως».¹⁰ Η θέσις αυτή επανεβεβαιώθη υπό των Ορθοδόξων συμμετεχόντων κατά την Αγγλικανική-Ορθόδοξον Επιτροπήν του 2006 εν Κύπρω.¹¹

Ως εκ τούτου, η δημοσία κοινή προσευχή του Μητροπολίτου Σιλουανού μετά της Σάρα Μάλλυ, υπό την ιδιότητά της ως Αρχιεπισκόπου Καντερβουρίας, εντός του ιδίου αυτής Καθεδρικού Ναού, αντιβαίνει όχι μόνον εις τους προαναφερθέντας Ιερούς Κανόνας, αλλά και εις την τελευταίαν επισήμως διατυπωθείσαν θέσιν της Εκκλησίας της Αντιοχείας.

Σας απευθυνόμεθα ταπεινώς, όχι επειδή θεωρούμεν εαυτούς «σωτήρας» της Εκκλησίας, αλλά εκ του πόνου τον οποίον φέρουμεν εν ταις καρδίαις ημών και εκ της βαθυτάτης επιθυμίας μας να παραμείνωμεν Ορθόδοξοι.

Ουδείς άνθρωπος έχων Ορθόδοξον συνείδησιν θα ηδύνατο να ανεχθεί να βλέπει οποιοδήποτε μέλος της Εκκλησίας να προσεύχεται δημοσίως μετά των ετεροδόξων, πολλώ δε μάλλον να βλέπει τους Ιερούς Κανόνας να παραμένουν ανεφάρμοστοι εις παρομοίας πράξεις.

Your Beatitude the Patriarch,

And Your Eminences, the Metropolitans, Members of the Holy Synod,
We humbly write to Your Beatitude and Your Eminences with reference to our previous emails concerning His Eminence, Metropolitan of the British Isles and Ireland, Silouan. We wrote to You on 17 October 2025 regarding His public common prayer with the heterodox in Rome,1 and again on 26 June 2026 regarding the same at Canterbury, (2) neither of which has yet received a response.

It deeply troubles our Orthodox conscience to continue witnessing Metropolitan Silouan pray openly and publicly with the heterodox, at services led by the Pope of Rome (on
14 September 2025)3 and the Archbishop of Canterbury (on 25 March 2026) (4) inside their own places of worship in Rome and at Canterbury Cathedral. These were not private or incidental encounters but public acts of common prayer which scandalise the Orthodox faithful and continue to deeply wound us.

As stated in our previous emails, Metropolitan Silouan’s actions are contrary to the following Holy Canons:

45th Apostolic Canon: “A bishop, or presbyter, or deacon who prays together with heretics shall be excommunicated; but if he has permitted them to perform any clerical act, let him be defrocked.”(5)

65th Apostolic Canon: “If anyone, either of the clergy or laity, enters into a synagogue of the Jews or of heretics to pray, let the former be defrocked and let the latter be excommunicated.”(6)

Canon 32 of the Council of Laodicea: “One must not accept blessings of heretics, for they are rather absurdities, than blessings.”(7)

Canon 33 of the Council of Laodicea: “No one shall pray in common with heretics or schismatics.”(8)

Furthermore, in 1978, the Church of Antioch took part in the Commission for Anglican – Orthodox Joint Doctrinal Discussions in Athens, together with ten other Local Orthodox Churches.(9)
There the Orthodox delegation unanimously rejected the ordination of women as an “innovation” without foundation in Holy Tradition, concluding that it constituted “a violation of the apostolic faith and order of the Church.”,(10)

This position was reaffirmed by Orthodox participants at the 2006 Anglican – Orthodox Commission in Cyprus.(11)
Therefore, public common prayer by Metropolitan Silouan with Sarah Mullally as Archbishop of Canterbury, at her own cathedral, is contrary not only with the abovementioned Holy Canons but also to the Church of Antioch’s last official position.

We humbly write to You not out of any sense that we are “saviours” of the Church, but out of the pain in our hearts and our deepest desire to remain Orthodox. Anyone with an Orthodox conscience could not bear to see any member of the Church pray publicly with the heterodox, let alone see the Holy Canons left unapplied to such actions.
