Παράλληλα εκδόθηκε προειδοποίηση για τσουνάμι στα παράλια της περιοχής Τσιάπας που βρέχονται από τον Ειρηνικό. Οι κάτοικοι που βρίσκονται κοντά στην ακτή καλούνται να μετακινηθούν σε υψηλότερα σημεία ως προληπτικό μέτρο.

Μέχρι στιγμής δεν υπάρχουν πληροφορίες για θύματα ή για την έκταση των καταστροφών. Το αμερικανικό κέντρο προειδοποίησης για τσουνάμι στον Ειρηνικό Ωκεανό (PTWC) ανέφερε ότι υπάρχει πιθανότητα παλιρροϊκά κύματα να πλήξουν παράκτιες περιοχές σε απόσταση έως και 300 χιλιομέτρων από το επίκεντρο του σεισμού.
